HAJI ANNES
Haji Annes Naqshbandi Hijazi Originally from South America, Haji Annes is a celebrated musician of international appreciation. He has always been passionate about music as a tool for self-expression and contemplation in a world which is increasingly rife with insincerity and oppression. From an early age, he has learnt to play the saxophone, and was a member of several bands. He gained popularity in local communities and also travelled with his orchestra and played internationally. His love for the saxophone is not just rooted in the sound, but the way in which its music vibrates through the body and resonates in the heart.
However, he reached a stage in his musical career where he began to feel restricted in the environment in which he was playing his music. He wanted music to bring happiness to his listeners, but instead, he saw that it was being misused - to pollute the heart, not to seek inner contentment.
Whilst on his journey to find internal peace, he abandoned music and his beloved saxophone for a time. However, in realising his true purpose, and working to strengthen himself spiritually, Haji Annes has rediscovered the genuine capacity of music, finding a new and more positive use in music - to enrich the lives of others by re-awakening the subdued and sleeping soul.
He has humbly accepted our invitation to spend time with us at this year's Blessed Summit, to share with us the sounds and rhythms of the saxophone, and in doing so, to help us understand the role of music in helping to reignite the fervour of the soul.
